When to Get Senior Pictures Taken
Today on the blog, I’ll be answering the burning question of “When to get senior pictures taken?”.
Here in Texas, lots of seniors procrastinate and wait until the last minute. But I often wonder if it’s procrastination or just lack of knowledge.
For some seniors, summer and fall seem too soon for senior pictures. On the other hand, spring may seem too last minute for other high school seniors.

So when should you get senior pictures taken?
From a Houston senior photographer’s perspective, summer and fall of the year where you’re heading into your senior year, is the best time to take them. Here’s why, if you’re a student athlete, band member, or even a student heavily involved in extracurricular activities, by the time school starts you might not actually have time.
If you asked every high school senior how fast their final year went by, they’d all tell you it flew by quickly. And for good reason! You’ve got:
- volleyball and football games,
- basketball games,
- cheer and band practice,
- college applications,
- Operation or Project Graduation,
- part-time jobs or co-op
- club meetings
- Senior Prom
- never-ending deadlines, homework and so much more.
And the list just keeps on growing.
Why? Because every other high school senior is also trying to squeeze in senior pictures at the last minute.
But what about my cap and gown?
If you get on the calendar and take them before the end of the first semester, I’ll include a complimentary cap and gown mini session and three images for you. Easy peasy, right?! That way you can still have your photos the way you want, but also get the infamous cap and gown photo for grandma too.
Plus, lots of seniors don’t have cap and gown photos taken anymore. It’s kind of a thing in the past. But, if you insist, I’m more than happy to book you in for a cap and gown session as well.
The Least Busiest Time of the Year
With that being said, the best time to get your senior pictures taken in Houston is the least busiest time of the year –for you and me! If you’ll be busy all fall and spring, that leaves the summer.
On the contrary, if you’ll be busy during the summer and fall, that leaves the winter or spring. However, a word of caution for spring time photos. Although you may not be as busy during the spring (which I’m sure you still will be), it’s the busiest time of the year for Houston senior pictures.
