Senior Pictures in the Yearbook | Houston Senior Photographers

If you want senior pictures in the yearbook, I recommend booking your senior photographer as soon as possible. Although some high schools allow outside senior photographers, others require you to use their photographer. I went over the best time to take your senior photos in another post.

Firstly, most of the time when you book the school’s senior photographer, your senior pictures will look like everyone else’s. For some reason, I’ve never seen a standard yearbook picture that has a “wow” factor. With that being said, a lot of times, seniors come to me when they’re wanting more personalized and modern senior portraits.

In my opinion, convenience is one of the only real benefits to taking senior pictures in the yearbook with your school’s required photographer. Again, not all schools have a required photographer, but a lot of the larger schools with 800+ senior students do.

When should you book senior pictures in the yearbook?

Your senior yearbook deadline will most likely take place early in the school year. There are some exceptions for smaller schools and small towns. Usually it is no later than before you guys take off for winter break.

As a recommendation, If your deadline is in August or September, you should take your senior pictures in the yearbook by June (before starting your senior year). Of course when you live in Texas, no one wants senior photos in the summer. However, this is most likely the least busiest time of your senior year. Therefore, I recommend photos in spring of your junior year.

On the other hand, if your senior yearbook photo deadline is the winter of your senior year, you should book your senior photos no later than October.

Even though some schools restrict who can take your senior pictures in the yearbook that lists your classmates alphabetically, they’ll still allow you to submit your own senior photos as an ad. This is great if you or your parents want to leave a special message.

Additionally, you can use your personalized senior pictures to:

Summary: Senior Pictures in the Yearbook

In closing, senior pictures in the yearbook aren’t as hard as it seems. You’ll either have a required senior photographer appointed by your school, or you’ll be able to choose your own. If you want to stand out from the crowd or have senior photos that show your interests, you should book a senior photographer! You can always add your custom senior pictures to your yearbook as an ad, or you can use it with one of the other ways I listed above.
