How to Prepare for Your Guys Senior Photos

Let me preface this post by saying I seriously wish more guys booked me for their senior photo sessions!

I’ve got an affinity for sports, music, and book lovers and just know we’d hit it off. Now that you’ve booked your senior session with me, I wanted to give you a few tips to help you get ready for this epic session of yours.

If you follow these tips leading up to your session, you’ll have ideas on how to be prepared for senior guys photos.

Tips to Prepare for Your Senior Guys Photos

Wardrobe or outfits

You’ll want to bring at least three outfits to wear for your session. Lay them out so they’re ready to go and shoot me pictures of them in a text so we can decide if we need to make any location changes. Also, keep them on hangers and steam or iron if necessary, we don’t want as few wrinkles as humanly possible on them.

Don’t leave home without the accessories

You can bring your watch and class ring to the session if you want. Also, don’t forget to pack your other accessories like scarves, belts, matching socks and shoes.  You’ll need a different pair of shoes for each look you’ll be wearing.

Props

Whether you’re bringing your sports gear, uniforms, musical instrument, or favorite books to read, have that laid out and packed up ready to go as well. If you’re driving and want your car to be in the photos, make sure it’s washed 1-2 days prior to your session so that it’s squeaky clean.

Get some sleep

You’ll want to be well rested so that you won’t tire out during the session. The night before isn’t probably the best time to stay up all night playing League of Legends or Call of Duty, or snapping on Snapchat. It’s gonna be a pretty eventful day so making sure you’re hydrated and have gotten some good rest will do the trick.

Haircuts and styling

Get your hair cut about a week to a week and a half prior to your session. If you get it cut too close to your session, the camera will pick up on razor cut marks and hair bumps.

Don’t forget to shave away any stubble from your face and neck prior to your session. I personally think 1-2 days prior is best.

Skincare

If you wake up a couple of days before your session, or even the morning of, and notice acne on your face –don’t worry about it. Try not to pick at it since that’ll only make it worse and more difficult to get rid of. Trust me, I learned this one the hard way lol. Just wash your face as normal (or wash it if you don’t) and let it be.

Don’t worry too much about blemishes since I can edit some blemishes out of your purchased images.

Clip your nails my dude

Keep your nails nice and clean before session day. Make sure to clip any excess skin or even just remove any loose dirt that may be showing underneath your nail bed.

It sounds dumb but….practice in the mirror

If you feel awkward in front of the camera or have never really had professional photos taken, you might consider what I call “Mirror Posing”. This is basically where you stand in front of the mirror and practice your smile. You can try poses like one hand in your pocket and folding your arms with a nice lean.

I’m known for helping all my seniors feel comfortable, so don’t be surprised if you hear me ask you questions during your senior photoshoot.

Closing How to Prepare for Your Senior Guys Photos

Almost all of my clients tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera. Nonetheless, after every single session they tell me they had a blast and made them feel comfortable. That’s legit my job. I’ll help you feel confident and look your best in your images.
