The Best Child Photo Session for You

Houston Children Photographer

There are a couple different options available for your children’s portraiture session. In order to help you choose the one that’s right for you, I’ve compiled a list that details information and time for each session.

Which session and how much time is best for your child

  • Miniature
  • Standard

For simplicity purposes, let’s start with the shortest session.

Miniature – Time: Varies (up to 15 minutes)

A miniature session is ideal if you just want to document what your child looks like at the age he or she is right now. With me, miniature sessions are limited to a specific theme and are only available during very specific times of the year.

Your miniature session will take place in a specified location decided by me and because we won’t change locations or backgrounds, there aren’t many very creative shots.

Quick recap:

  • short
  • specific theme, location, and date
  • less creativity
  • access to one gown or costume from the specific list for the set or theme
  • recommended for children with short attention spans or if you just want some quick shots

Standard Session –  Time: 30-45 minutes

This is our most popular session. This session caters to younger children and allows me to capture more creative photos. You’ll get one outfit change and a change of scenery or background in the studio. In addition, with more time, younger children have the chance to warm up and cooperate.

You also have the option to shoot either on location or outdoors rather than inside the studio. Multiple wardrobe changes are also available.

Summary: The Best Child Photo Session for You and Your Child

Here are my recommendations based on ages, of course if you have a child who is photogenic and takes direction well, this can change.

Miniature:

  • 3+ year olds with one location or background and theme
  • toddlers who take direction well

Standard session

  • Newborns and children of all ages
  • Siblings or multiple children
  • Access to more than one costume or gown per child
  • One location inside the studio or on-location, outdoors ‘

If you have additional questions regarding a fine art portrait session with me before booking, shoot me an email. I’m here to help.
