8 Things to Do in The Woodlands with Family
If you live in The Woodlands and have a family, chances are you’re looking for ways to keep the kids busy, entertained, and out of your hair. And if you don’t have kids, chances are you’re still looking for ways to get out of the house more often and do something fun with your friends and family. Here are 8 things to do in The Woodlands with family.Â
- Play in one of the many local parks
- Walk The Woodlands Waterway
- Go shopping at Market Street
- Visit a festival at Town Green park
- Catch a movie at one of the local movie theaters
- Attend a show at Cynthia Woods Mitchell PavilionÂ
- The Children’s MuseumÂ
- Visit the Rob Fleming Aquatic CenterÂ

Local Parks in The Woodlands
When we first moved to The Woodlands, we did so because of the nature and amenities. We enjoy taking bike rides and walking along the many trails. So it’s a no-brainer that with so many local parks in the area, you won’t have to travel far to find one. You can spend hours in the park playing games, riding bikes, or just relaxing with a picnic.
Some, actually most, of the parks even have ponds, basketball courts, and skate areas. For instance, Rob Fleming Park has a nature trail with native plantings and wildlife. It’s a great place to go when you are looking for some peace and quiet.
The Woodlands Waterway
The Woodlands Waterway, located near downtown The Woodlands, is a 1,200 acre recreational area that includes several lakes and waterfalls. It’s also home to a variety of birds, fish, and other wildlife. Plus, if you take a short walk down the waterway, you can rent a kayak from the Riva Row Boat House.
Market Street
Shopping at Market Street in The Woodlands is a great way to get a feel for the community. New stores are actually being added as I type this blog post which is awesome. Market Street’s restaurants, shops, and boutiques help make it a great place to shop, dine, and explore the town.Â
Festivals
Another option is to check for festivals and events at Town Green Park. For example, The Woodlands CrawPhish Festival is an annual crawfish festival that takes place every spring. The festival features live music, games, and activities for the entire family. You can also expect to see events during holidays: such as Independence Day, Halloween and more.
Catch a movie with family in The Woodlands
This sounds pretty old school considering the vast population that watches shows and movies via Netflix and Hulu. However, I’m a big fan of the local movie theater experience. There’s something about the aroma of overpriced popcorn, recliner seats, IMAX and surround sound that seems difficult to replace.Â
If your kiddos are anything like mine though, they sometimes have trouble sitting still. In this case, purchase matinee tickets to a shorter movie instead to make it worthwhile for them.Â
The Woodlands’ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
This is a great place to see a live performance whether it’s a concert, musical, or theatrical show. Some past acts include: Chris Stapleton, The Trolls World Tour, annual holiday medleys by local high school students, and more.Â
The Children’s MuseumÂ
The Children’s Museum in The Woodlands is an indoor play space where children can explore, interact with, and learn about science, art, technology, nature, culture, and history. I love how the kids can experience, create, and learn while having fun. Additionally, the museum features exhibits that help children to develop their imagination, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. It’s a great place to spend the day with kids in a safe environment where they can explore, discover, and have fun.
Rob Fleming Aquatic Center in The Woodlands, TXÂ
Rob Fleming Aquatic Center is a facility that is designed to give children and adults of all ages an opportunity to learn and enjoy water activities.
The center offers a variety of aquatic activities including swimming lessons. With both a large pool and small pool, there’s something for everyone here. It’s open to the public for an additional fee. Definitely recommend Rob Fleming for the summer months.
