7 Best Places to Hang Family Photos | Houston Family Photographer
How do you plan to enjoy your photos after your family pictures or photo session? Will they sit on your phone or computer hard drive after they’ve been shared on social media?
Today on the blog, I’ll give you the 7 best places to hang family photos in your home.
Table of Contents: 7 Best Places to Hang Family Photos
The Living Room, Family Room, or Den
It’s called different things, but one thing remains the same –it’s where your family gathers. What better place to display your family and connection than in the center of your home? It provides endless possibilities of wall art combinations.
When I got my first wall portrait back in 2016, we were living in a three bedroom double wide home with light green walls. We couldn’t paint them because it was a rental property and the 30×40” gallery wrapped canvas hung proudly on display. It was our family’s first professional photo session. When we moved into our new home, I put it on an easel in the living room. And then it got a new home…
The Stairwell Wall
If you have a multi-floor or two-story home, the stairwell wall is a great place to hang your family photos. The lines on the stairs naturally draw our eyes closer to the stairwell, so if you have lots of wall space it’s a great place to start your gallery wall.
Your Hallway
Your hallway is another of the best places to hang your family photos. In fact, if you’ve read previous emails or posts about my own family, you may remember me mentioning my grandmother has a time capsule of her family on her hallway walls.
If you would like to share many small photos of various life stages, the hallway is a great place to hang family photos. For instance, mini wall art sized 11×14”, 8×10” and 5×7” are great for the hallway. The hallway is a great place to mix and match frames.
Bedrooms
For many, the bedroom has the most personality in your home (unless you’re like me, mine has the worst haha). I’ve seen clients hang everything from maternity, newborn, couple, wedding, family and even beauty or boudoir photos in their bedrooms.
There is no right or wrong ‘place’ or way. I generally recommend hanging the portraits above your bed. I’m a big fan of jigsaws and triptychs here. For high school seniors, tweens or teens, I’ve even recommended a single 16×20” or 16×24” portrait on a side wall here.
Above the Fireplace
Similar to niches, fireplaces draw the eyes in. This is one of the reasons many families usually hang their televisions here. Most often table art and small family photos are placed along the fireplace shelf. However, if you don’t plan on hanging a television there, the wall above your fireplace makes a great place to show off your stunning family photos.
Niche or Archway
Many homes have a wall niche or archway and this is an excellent place to highlight a family photo, especially if there’s recessed or special lighting there.
Dining Area, Breakfast Room, Dinette
Although it’s often overlooked, I’ve seen stunning portraits hanging on the walls of the dining area. Just keep in mind the viewing distance of the wall art piece. For example, a set of four portraits would be beautiful if you have a smaller breakfast room or dining area.
